The historical building of the National Historical building of the Theatre was build between 1868-1881 as the embodiment of the will of the Czech nation for national independence. Today the Theatre is the main stage for the drama, opera and ballet.

The Prague State Opera resides in the building which on January 5, 1888 was opened as a Prague German stage.Among the exceptional artistic figures who performed here were directors Gustav Mahler, Richard Strauss, as well as soloists Anna Bahr-Mildenburg, Berta Enrico Caruso.
