Prague's crime rate is very low compared to that of many other countries . However, street crime -- particularly pick pocketing and mugging -- is a problem as elsewhere in big cities, especially in major tourist areas in Prague and on public transportation. Travelers should be very careful while riding the trains, trams, or metro, where most pick pocketing occurs. Keep a copy of your passport in a safe place separate from the passport itself; this copy can help you to apply for a new passport if yours is lost or stolen.
Prague Taxi. Unfortunately, there are plenty of dishonest taxi drivers in Prague. The best general advice is to never pick a taxi that stands still in the street somewhere waiting for a customer. Customers are recommended to order a taxi with nonstop dispatching offices where the information on fares is available in advance. After the journey is completed, the customer has the right to ask the taxi driver for an orderly and fully filled receipt for the payment. The receipt has to be issued by the taximeter printer. Money exchange. Many offices mostly in the best tourist locations charge extremely high commission up to 9%, check very carefully net rate before you decide to change to avoid misunderstandings from the visibly 'best' rates on the shopping window boards. See more on money exchange.
